Introduce yourself?
Hi there! Names David a energetic ADHD proud wildlife loving chap from Wiltshire! Though, I used to live in Folkestone for 10+ years and miss it everyday! I'm a conservationist at heart, having worked in the industry in various roles for over a decade, my greatest passion is raising awareness for the plight of nature. Before you ask, favourite animal is the African Painted Dog!
You are a finalist of Mr Gay Britain this year what made you enter the competition?
There's three key reasons why I entered!
- Because I have a voice and a passion for nature that needs to be heard! We take the natural world for granted so, it's time to take responsibility and step up to the table and make a change. - To represent for the ADHD community and show you can do anything when you harness your neurod divergency, it really is a superpower!
- The charity fundraising element. As someone who's lent on charities like Pride Action North and The Charlie & Carter Foundation in the past, I know how valuable these organisations are and just how critical the work they do is, and without public support they simply can't survive.
What is your campaign about in the competition?
I'm campaigning for environmental awareness and nature conservation. I believe people are aware of the plight of nature but don't necessarily feel they know how to act. (Enter me!) I'm here to change that perspective, if every person decided to change one habit the ripple effect that would have is monumental. People forget we are part of nature as much as a bee is, and our very existence depends on it, it's about time we had more sympathy towards the environment and acted on it.
You recently went up to Newcastle to meet all the contestants, how was that?
Yes, we were recently at Alnwick Castle for the media training weekend. I had an absolute ball meeting the charities, pageant organisers and of course the other contestants. Yes, we are all in competition for the title but we also support each other and want to boost each other along, at the end of the day if we all help each other be the best we can be. It's only positives that can come from it!
What would it mean to you to win the competition?
Truly the world, not only do you get a chance to address parliament on your advocacy, you also have a title and platform that has weight behind it for you to push your agenda. Currently there isn't much queer representation within the environmental sector, not on a media level atleast. Nature is struggling now more than ever, and it's time for a fresh new face in the public domain to drive that home!
How can people vote for you?
When voting opens, they can head too the MrGayGB Facebook and Instagram pages and like my photo, it's as simple as that! Whoever gets the most likes wins the public vote and is a big step closer to the title!
